Saving our future by preserving our past.
These guys are caged tight while they are getting ready to join us for dinner. The roosters are allowed to free range and develop leg and wing muscle and for intense flavor. While these birds will not develop the huge breast familiar to grocery store shoppers, they are ideal for fryers and fricasee. Beeappy Farm raises white and brown egg layers and offers delivery to the Charleston, WV. Preserving the gene pool of both plants and animals is important to us. Heritage and double breasted turkeys are free range birds here. At night, I call my birds by singing to them and telling them it is time for dinner and bed. The turkeys are imprinted on humans and are handled frequently to ensure their response. Beeappy does have both heritage and white double breasted turkeys available for sale this year. The heritage birds may be purchased live as poults or young adults. These birds make excellent pets or additions to your barnyard. They are also available dressed, along with the double breasted whites.
What do our birds eat then? Our birds will eat almost anything they can catch. This includes worms, grasshoppers and baby field mice. We provide our birds with a balanced diet from the local feed store and plenty of water. Nature takes over from there.
Combining old knowledge with new technology produces strange contradictions. Beeappy Farm doesn't have television but uses satellite internet keeps in touch with the outside world.
Beeappy Farm LLC consists of Jane and Larry Caswell. We are blessed with four grown sons and their families.
Christopher, our youngest, is checking the hives. He and his wife, Sara, enjoy working the bees. Like many other beekeepers, we have lost hives the last couple of years. This year, Larry is using local splits to replace lost hives in the apiary.
